to send
Majesty's Government. I beg
: your Lordship Copy of my letter to
the Bishop of Victoria and of Lordship's reply.
I beg to mention that a sum
amounting to £1,000 in all has been
paid to St. Paul's College,
up to the present time and that not a single pupil
has been trained for the Public Service
nor has that Service derived
any, the slightest benefit from the outlay.
It appears to me that if the
grant is to be continued it must be
placed on grounds wholly distinct
from those on which it was originally
made.
I shall at His Lordship's request send a Copy of this correspondence to the Secretary of State for the Colonies. I am disposed to think that if
an allowance of money be made to St Paul's College it should be from Colonial and not from Parliamentary funds.
I have, &c.,
(Signed) John Bowring.
(True Copy)
Colonial Secretary.
